Firefighter dies at NY fire scene

Firefighter Kevin E. Townes had just put on his protective equipment, was getting ready to enter house when he collapsed

Duty Death: Kevin E. Townes - [Mount Vernon, New York]


MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — A firefighter died at the scene of a basement fire in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Thursday.

Firefighter Kevin E. Townes, 54, had just put on his protective equipment and was getting ready to enter the house when he collapsed.

Firefighter Townes was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, where he died.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Firefighter Townes had been a firefighter with the Mount Vernon Fire Department for 25 years.
