Cold Weather Hampers Firefighting Efforts in Mass.

Department: Oxford Fire Department - [Oxford, Massachusetts]

On Jan. 30, 2005, a fire ignited at a residence on Newton Avenue in Oxford, Mass. Cold weather and frozen hydrants hampered firefighters trying to control the partition fire that extended into a knee wall and void spaces to spread throughout the house.

Mutual aid had to be called from three surrounding communities before the fire could be brought under control. The fire was caused by a siding nail that had been driven through an electrical wire inside the wall of the residence.
