N.Y. firefighters initiate water rescue on Staten Island

MEDIA ALERT - STATEN ISLAND WATER RESCUE

Today at 2:00 PM the Fire Department (Engine 155/ Ladder 78) responded to call for a person in the water at 561 Richmond Terrace in the St. George section of Staten Island.

Firefighters from Ladder Co. 78 (Firefighter Thomas Feaser and Firefighter Joseph Pigott) donned coldwater diving suits and entered the water. After searching for approximately 10 minutes, the firefighters located the female victim face down and under the pier. Firefighters Feaser and Pigott removed the victim to awaiting firefighters who lowered a portable ladder into the water to assist. EMTs from St. Vincent's Hospital (SI) performed CPR to resuscitate the victim and then transported her to St. Vincent's Hospital.

The Fire Department will hold a media availability with Firefighters Feaser and Pigott this evening at 5:30 p.m.
